My Midweek Prayer Walk
Today I went on a Midweek Prayer Walk around Barnstaple. I used the Walk of Awareness pdf available from Church Urban Fund & the Scriptural Way of the Cross to plan my route and meditations along the way.
I started at Rock Park. Because of the beautiful sunny weather, there were several people here, and it proved a superb starting point for the walk. I found myself focussing on the image of Jesus reaching out to the people around Him, and I thought about what He would pray for the area.
Then I made my way around the town, stopping to read scripture & pray outside various places, including a school, a bank, a hotel, a pub and a church, as well as the cinema, the Civic Centre & the Museum of Barnstaple & North Devon. I also made a detour up Castle Mound to admire the views and pray.
The walk took about an hour and a half. I felt really inspired as I walked and looked about me. It has made me aware of just how little I pray for things and people around me. Jesus looked on the people around Him with compassion. He healed the sick. He fed the hungry. He spoke out against injustice. He died for us all. Am I doing enough to share His Love & Grace? No. I'm not.
This walk has motivated me to look at ways to pray for and help others more. During this Lent, I shall spend time thinking & praying about how to do this. :)
