Litter-Picking with Church Outside
This weekend, I have been on two Weekend Walks. In this blog post, I will tell you about the second one:
This morning, I joined Church Outside on a litter-picking & prayer walk along the cycle path around Barnstaple & Newport. Newport Life & Cycle have made some wonderful improvements to the paths around here, which I've never really taken the time to fully appreciate until today. They've planted new trees, put up some new fences, created some eye-catching signs & activities for children & given us new benches to sit on!
There was not as much litter along the paths as there used to be (a possible sign that Newport Life & Cycle's efforts are working?), but we still collected several bags worth of rubbish. We walked on to Rock Park, and found someone's discarded bottles and disposable barbecues from the night before, as well as other bits of litter along the paths.
Having collected plenty of litter, we realised the time and decided to return to Holy Trinity Church for coffee, tea & hot cross buns. It was a shorter walk than previous Church Outside events, but a very worthwhile way of serving the community we live in. Next month's is cancelled as it clashes with Easter; I wonder what we'll be up to in May?
