North Devon Festival of Real Ale & Food
Yesterday, Jon decided he wanted to go to the North Devon Festival of Real Ale & Food in the Barnstaple Pannier Market. A mate of his from Bristol had come down with some friends, and we also met Tomothy there, so our little group were seven in all. There was a great atmosphere, with live music from local artists (including the fabulous Jenna and the brilliant Jim Jones), as well as plenty of food and drink, of course! We enjoyed quite a few burgers and sausages from Westgate Angus and also some Dunstable ice cream.
My fave of the ales was the Black Boar from the Country Life Brewery, but it was agreed among our group that the best brewery overall was the Forge Brewery. Forge had several very tasty beers, including a new one they launched at the festival, Ambrosia, and not a dud note in their whole repertoire! Other breweries present worth mentioning include Jollyboat (Contraband being of special note) and Wizard Ales (Old Combe being the favourite from here).
We spent around six hours there chatting with friends (and some rather eccentric strangers) and had a great time. What a lovely way to spend a Bank Holiday!
