Tour Braunton Burrows!
Well, I think all the schools in the area must be broken up for summer now. And even though today hasn't been displaying the sunniest weather, I think this is as good a day as any to talk about going to the seaside. :)
One thing I love about living in North Devon is that it doesn't take long to reach the beach. If the weather is good, I can nip out in the car and be sunbathing by the sea in about ten minutes (traffic permitting). This is the closest I've ever lived to the coast - until moving here, the closest beach had always been over an hour's drive away.
I want to tell you about one beach in particular: Saunton Sands is one of my favourite beaches ever. It really is the perfect beach - such golden sand, so many flawless shells, the incredible view out to sea (which includes a glimpse of Lundy Island on a good day), and so much more. And then there are the dunes at Braunton Burrows. Wow!
Braunton Burrows is part of North Devon's UNESCO biosphere reserve, giving it the same world-class status as the Danube Delta and the Hawaiian Islands! And now, if you want to know more about the Burrows, there are three interactive tours available to download online from the Explore Braunton Website, with maps so you can see where you're going, MP3 files so you can listen and learn about the area, and video files so you can even enjoy a virtual tour. What a wonderful idea!
I'll certainly be giving at least one of these tours a go over summer. Come and join me!
