Appledore Arts Festival 2009

We've just been to the Appledore Visual Arts Festival! It was really good fun, with lots to see. This year's theme "Fire and Fury" was reflected particularly well by all the decorated door knockers around the village!

We started our visit by grabbing a map and buying some Hockings ice cream which is made in Appledore and is delicious!! Then we wandered along the quay to see what was in the yurts dotted around there. There were a few free workshops, but we decided against these and instead headed up Bude Street.

We visited the garden of Val Robbins for the amazing price of 50p each (which goes towards next year's festival). It was really worth it - the garden is amazing! It is so, so long, and filled with all sorts of interesting ornaments and pieces of art placed very cleverly amidst the beautiful greenery.

We also had a look along the Artist Trail. Jon was particularly taken with a piece by Polly Thompson which was made of cane and wax. We just missed the photo exhibition, so we pootled off to the Baptist Church Hall to check out the artists exhibiting there. There were beautiful lamps by Amy Cooper, stunning, ethical jewellery by April Doubleday and really cool handmade rugs by "Buddy Mungo" who currently doesn't have a Website but apparently will soon so I'll keep my eyes peeled for that!

Finally we popped into St Mary's Church Hall to see the exhibition by the Lundy Art Group, and they were serving teas and cakes, so we partook of the victuals also!

And now we're having a barbecue because it is an amazingly sunny day! Yay!
