Evensong at York Minster

I went to evensong at York Minster for the first time in years. And it truly was awesome!

The building is fabulous to look around while listening to the choir sing the Magnificat or a Psalm, and I find that it's a fantastic place to simply focus on God. However, the number of tourists leaving the service early was a little distracting at times.

I found the two readings interesting: Isaiah Chapter 5, verses 1-7, and Mark Chapter 12, verses 1-12. I've not heard them read together before, so I've never noticed the similarities. It gave me a lot to reflect upon, although the sermon was on a different topic to my thoughts.

The Reverend Canon Dr Jonathan Draper talked about anti-Semitism in the Christian faith and how Christians should remember "the essential Jewishness of our faith" and that Jesus was a Jew. If you're interested, you can read his sermon online.

I didn't get a palm cross at the service. I don't know if they don't hand them out at evensong or if I arrived too late for one. But Mum says she picked one up for me when she went to church, so yay!

On a related topic, Lent is nearly over...
