The Diary of A Nobody by George & Weedon Grossmith
Book Title: The Diary of A Nobody
Author Name: George & Weedon Grossmith
Why I decided to read this book: It's the only fiction book on my shelves that I'd previously read but could not remember anything about. This puzzled me, so I decided to reread it and see if I remembered anything. I think I originally bought it because I liked the title.
Summary: Set in the late 1800s, Mr Charles Pooter decides to keep a diary about the ups and downs of his humdrum, everyday life, involving his wife Carrie, son Lupin and friends Gowing and Cummings.
Strengths: The subtle humour comes across nicely in the writing, and the illustrations add to this, too. It is a fun story, and the characters are very distinct and likeable. The diary form is used well and quickly drew me in. The plot itself may not be detailed, but it helped me while away a few hours in an enjoyable manner.
Weaknesses: Nothing much happens. The reason why I forgot what happened after the first time I read it is presumeably because the events described are rather unremarkable, and there's not a great deal of plot development. I reckon I'm quite likely to quickly forget again what it's about, because I can't think of anything noteworthy that happened, even now, after just finishing it.
Overall Opinion: Despite there not being much I can say about it, I still think it was worth reading.
