Chocolate Temptations...
Giving up chocolate for Lent has been hard. Harder than I thought it would be (and I certainly wasn't expecting a picnic!). Previous years for Lent I've given up other things, and I've tried taking up new pursuits, too. And, with the exception of regular running (which failed because I got ill), I've had no great trouble succeeding. But this time is proving more difficult...
It's not so much the I-want-it-because-I'm-not-allowed attitude that is so tricky. I can handle that. Nor has it been any great trouble to find alternatives for when I usually would eat (or drink) chocolate. These problems haven't been any harder than previous years, and I've managed fine.
The biggest problem with chocolate is that people keep offering me chocolate!!! I don't know why, since I don't often get offered chocs at any other time of year, but this Lent, at any rate, people have been rather generous with their choccy. I'm not finding it difficult to resist, but it makes me quite sad to have to say no! And it also puts me off my guard - I nearly forgot I'd given up chocolate once!
Bah! I didn't have this problem when I gave up cheese! I guess nothing I've given up before has been the sort of thing one can share. Why do people share chocolate? Why can't they share non-chocolate biscuits, instead? Ginger Nuts, preferably. ;)
Despite these temptations, I've not had any chocolate so far this Lent. This is very impressive for me. It's going to be tough to keep this up until Easter, but I'm confident I'll manage...
...and then I expect double the usual amount of Easter Eggs as a reward! :P
