The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy by Tim Burton
Book Title: The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories
Author Name: Tim Burton
Why I decided to read this book: Tim Burton's name caught my eye, and I had to buy it.
Summary: A collection of short stories and poems about some pretty strange characters, told in Burton's characteristic manner - with illustrations, too.
Strengths: I found these stories and poems hysterical, and yet strangely poignant (I felt a little bad for laughing so hard). Burton is a master of creating bizarre figures who can play upon the audience's sympathies, and the characters in this book are no exception. I think the book also shows what a gifted writer the man is; many of these stories and poems are strokes of pure genius.
Weaknesses: I only wish that some of the stories had been a little longer.
Overall Opinion: If you enjoyed watching Burton's films Batman and Edward Scissorhands, this is for you. Also, if you've a sick sense of humour, read this. If you fit both conditions, like me, this will quickly become a fave!
