Marwood Hill Gardens, 8th March 2009
The sun sends its rays to the earth
To dry the frost-bitten ground;
I put on purple wellies,
Ready to go outside.
The mud is slippery!
Daffodils are starting to appear.
"Look at all the snowdrops!"
"They won't last much longer..."
The wind chills my ruddy cheeks,
As I splash through puddles.
I dig my hands deeper into my pockets
And soldier on merrily.
If only we had brought some bread
To feed the geese and ducks - and fish!
"Never mind, we'll remember next time."
(We say this every time we come here)
The trees are tinkling to themselves
As their labels flap against their bark;
Some have flown off to rest on the grass -
I wonder which label is for this one?
And finally, once we've completed our figure-of-eight
Around the two lakes and back again,
We'll stop off for a nice, warm cream tea,
And think about our next visit.
I hope the daffodils will be in full bloom then!
