The Liar by Stephen Fry

Book Title: The Liar

Author Name: Stephen Fry

Why I decided to read this book: Stephen Fry wrote it, so I was expecting something hilarious.

Summary: Adrian Healey is a habitual liar, and the protagonist of the book. You follow him through his public school days to university, where he meets Professor Donald Trefusis and things start to get a little crazy.

Strengths: Some of the characters are likeable; Professor Trefusis is probably the most intriguing of the lot.

Weaknesses: I found little enjoyable about this book. I didn't care two figs for the main character and thought most of his stunts more cruel than funny. Since the plot revolves around him, it was difficult for me to raise a smile as I read on. Oh, and I didn't find it amusing, which is what I think was intended, nor particularly surprising, that several chapters turned out to be completely made up by the protagonist to deliberately fool the people around him, and thus the reader, too.

Overall Opinion: I was disappointed, and won't be reading any more books by Stephen Fry.

Rating out of Five: One (I haven't got a graphic for 1/2, sadly)
