Resolutions, Update 1
I thought I ought to give a proper update on my Mid-Year Resolutions, so this is it. At first I didn't seem to be doing too well, but I think I'm managing a little better now. Below are brief summaries of how each resolution is progressing:
Get out and do more in our local area:
This is slow-going, but getting there. We've been to a handful of local gigs and exhibitions this month, I've taken on more volunteering responsibilities, and we've joined North Devon Arts. I'm going to wait a while before I blog about North Devon Arts in full, so that I can experience a bit more of what they have to offer first, but so far, it looks promising. On the downside, however, one of my few friends in our local area is moving away. :(
Edit MM1 and write the first draft of MM3 (the second in the series):
This month I planned to edit MM1 during the first few weeks, and spend the rest of the month (and next month) writing MM3. Well, the editing MM1 didn't happen, but draft one of MM3 is coming along very well. I'm hoping that once the first draft of MM3 is out of the way I'll be able to concentrate properly on MM1 again. Time will tell, I guess.
Finish the two crochet items I started last year:
This resolution, I admit, isn't doing too well. I haven't touched either unfinished crochet item, as yet. But I have touched my crochet hooks, and I've been trying to get back into practise by crocheting squares. This hasn't been entirely successful, but it has been fun. I'll try to work harder on this next month.
Experiment in the kitchen:
This has gone surprisingly well, and you can read about it in my recent blog post Cooking Creations.
Come up with an outline for a series of children's stories:
There's not been much progress with this one, but, then again, I didn't plan to do a great deal with this over July. I have been thinking about it in a vague way, but nothing definite has been decided yet. I guess an appropriate summing up would be 'ideas are slowly formulating'.
On the spiritual side of things, I'd just like to add that I have also finished my target of reading every book of the Bible. I knew there were books I'd never read, but I could not be sure which ones I'd read fully, which ones partly, and which not at all, so I decided to set up a routine where I would make sure I read every single book. This is something that has taken me a few years to do, but I managed to come up with a schedule, and after initial struggles to make it a regular habit, I kept to it really well, finishing today.
I admit, I still haven't read it in order (I think the order I read it in went something like Genesis to Deuteronomy, Matthew to Revelations, and finally Joshua to Malachi), but I don't think the Bible is a book that needs to be read in any given order. I won't count this in my reading target, however, for too many reasons to mention. Now, I've going to start the New Testament again and try to study those books in a little more depth for the remainder of the year.
So, on the whole, I think I'm doing well. :) How are you doing?
