Jon's Birthday Treats

During the week just gone, it was Jon's birthday. On the day itself, I was working, and so was Jon, although he had several visitors to wish him happy birthday during the day. That evening, I cooked Moroccan chicken, potato gratin & spicy apple cake for him. All recipes taken from Hubble Bubble, which, if you ignore the hocus-pocus and just try the recipes, is actually a very good book (and I got it really cheap!).

The chicken was delicious. :) I don't like the gratin or the cake, but Jon enjoyed both immensely, and it was his birthday, so that means that my cooking was a huge success! We also had some fabulous white wine, and we watched two excellent films: Shaun of the Dead (which neither of us had seen before) and Hot Fuzz (which we saw in the cineman and loved).

Jon had a lot of wonderful presents, including a coffee grinder, DVDs, CDs, recipe books and clothing. The DVDs we watched on his birthday were part of my present to him, as well as a hat I made him and some chilli peppers to grow. :)

Yesterday, as a birthday treat, we went to Dartmoor for wild boar and apple burgers from our favourite Dartmoor pub. :D:D:D The food, of course, was exquisite! And then we went to a craft fair that just happened to be nearby that day! Jon enjoyed chatting to a photographer there, and I admired candles, wool, jewellery and handmade cards. After this, Jon decided he would rather spend some time shopping in Exeter than walking in Dartmoor (I think he was exhausted from the brief bit of walking we'd already done, lol!). We got ourselves yet more hot chocolate from Whittard while in Exeter, and the ginger one is scrummy!

Today, we went to the Remembrance service in town this morning, and Jon's been alternately baking and sleeping. I think yesterday really tired him out! He had a fab week, though, and he's very grateful for all the pressies, cards and kind thoughts and wishes. Thanks!

And now for homemade pizza and garlic bread! Yum!
