Burst Tyres & Helicopters
Last night Jon and I went out for a meal. Nothing fancy, just a really nice local fish-and-chip place. Afterwards, we went for a drink in a pub on the way back. It was a very pleasant evening, and the rain did little to dampen our spirits.
As we made our way home, however, we were in for a fright... in the dark and wet we walked along the pavement as cars drove by. We took little notice as we hurried to get indoors. In fact I would not have noticed a certain car going past at all, if it had not been for what happened...
Along that stretch of road there are roadworks and temporary traffic lights. Because of this a small island that helps pedestrians cross has had its luminous bollards removed. Therefore cars driving in the dark have no warning that the island is there.
Yes, that's right: the driver of the car did not see the steep kerb of the island and drove over it. This caused its tyre to burst. The noise was incredible, but somehow the car managed to drive on past us. I think it stopped further on, but we continued on our way home.
Later that night a rescue helicopter (or so we think) circled the area. It was flying quite low and its rumbling was fairly loud whenever it passed nearby. It was back again this morning. I have no idea what it was doing, but helicopters have always fascinated me.
And that was last night's adventures.
