Sketches by Boz & The Pickwick Papers
I have finished "Sketches by Boz" - a collection of short stories written by Dickens in his early twenties. It was a fascinating read. I am a great fan of the man, and this has afforded me an insight into his beginning as an author. It is quite astonishing to think how busy his life was at the time, and how much he got done! Hopefully, his example will inspire me.
I am going to reread about his life from writing SbB up to and during publication of "The Pickwick Papers" next. And then, as loathe as I am to do so, I will read his first published novel.
Why am I so uneager to read my favourite author's first novel? Because I have tried once before to read "The Pickwick Papers" and given up through disinterest after a couple of chapters. I have been informed, however, that it does improve, and being that it is the only Dickens novel I do not love, I suppose it is worth giving one more try.
To sum up the rest of my news: today has been lovely and sunny, I have been productive and more fairies have appeared. What more could one ask for?
