Bad Marketing Example
I don't think I mentioned that last week Jon and I went to Exeter for the day. Tidying my car just now I found our parking ticket for the car park we used. Usually I'd just bin it, but for some reason I turned it round and noticed the back.
On the back of the ticket was printed a voucher for use in the local Subway. At first, I thought this seemed a good idea. Then I thought about it a bit more...
The voucher is on the back of the ticket - which you have to display in your car while you are parked, else you'll receive a fine. Thus, visitors to the city like myself and Jon are unable to use the voucher (which was only for use in Exeter branches). And locals really shouldn't have to park in the city's car parks. So, in reality, the gimmick doesn't work very well.
However, what made me laugh out loud was the last line of the voucher: "Valid until 30th June 2006"!!!!
If a company is going to orchestrate a marketing campaign like these vouchers on the back of parking tickets, some research ought to be done into how busy the car park is. It does not look good for someone to receive a voucher for a deal that ran out nearly THREE months ago!
Needless to say, Jon and I didn't eat there during our visit (we didn't even see the voucher at the time). But I thought this might amuse peeps. :)
