The Battle Is Won
It has been a mammoth task and has involved tremendous effort, but it has not been in vain. All the rooms downstairs (except the hall which has a pile of things that need to be brought upstairs) are tidy! The kitchen table can now be used for more appropriate uses than storing various empty folders and envelopes! All the chairs in the lounge can be sat on, without crushing various bits of paper! My book shelves actually have books on them!
And, even more amazingly, WE CAN SEE THE BEDROOM FLOOR! The clothes have all been put away, my various stories have been sorted together and put in piles, ready to be put away, a large pile of rubbish sits near the bin, and I have no idea what else was in the way, but it's gone now, whatever it was!
It is not entirely finished, as there are still small piles that need to be put away, but the mess is gone. The fact is that pretty much everything now belongs somewhere. Part of why I let the place get so messy before now was because I didn't know where to put everything, so I left it all where it was. By dealing with the problem one room at a time and forcing myself to stop putting it off, I have sorted it all out. The house is now a lot nicer to be in! :)
Things aren't perfect. We still can't utilise the spare room properly as it is stuffed with furniture we need rid of, and some of the bedroom stuff will have to stay in piles for a little while as I need to buy things to store it in. But we're just about ready for our visitors next week. My work here is pretty much done. It's Jon's job to deal with selling our unwanted furniture, and once that's done... the house will probably be messy again. ;)
I'm feeling so much better now.
