Art Trek
Last weekend was Art Trek (16-19th June). We didn't get to see as much as we'd have liked as we were busy, but yesterday was a truly fantastic day.
The places we visited not only had amazing, inspirational art on display, but the artists themselves were fantastic to talk to! And they were very encouraging, so it looks like Jon and I will be joining a few art groups in the area. The whole thing made me feel very hopeful.
It is amazing how many Open Studio events have popped up over the country in recent years. York has had one for many years, but we've discovered two new ones this year, and doubtless there are many more!
I think this is a good thing. Art is to be shared and discovered, so what better way to achieve this than opening your studio to the public for one weekend a year? It is incredible finding out what is going on just round the corner from you!
If you've never heard of an Open Studios event, then try and find out if there is one in your area. It is really worthwhile. And if you are an artist and there is one in your area, get involved! Don't worry about who will turn up, all the artists I've visited over the years haven't had any such problems, and they've all enjoyed the experience (and in some cases flogged a few pieces, too!).
Perhaps this week I will begin to flex my own artistic muscle once more...
