SightSonic Goes LIVE!

That's right, it's SightSonic! Not that you'd notice if you walked through the streets of York today. *sigh*

I got to the National Centre for Early Music at 8.45am. David recognised me, and showed me the registration desk I was to man for when the conference guests arrived. Jacki turned up (she was running workshops), and it was ace to see her! :D Then Mark appeared to set up the interactive musical fountain - that thing is sooo cool! However, I'm also in the local papers now, thanks to him. >:/ Check this post in a few days for links to the photo...

The conference was really good. Very popular, and the talk I saw was really informative and fun. Wow! Everyone seemed impressed by the software demonstrated. I can see how it would all be excellent for use in schools - kids would love to make their own music and movies!

Sadly, I had to disappear in the middle of the second talk. This was more about creating music in secondary schools and self-publishing/promoting it. I would have liked to have heard more, but I had to dash, have a quick lunch, and head to work. The reception was very quiet, being a Friday afternoon, and I would really rather have stayed at the conference, but I need the money, I s'pose...

Some people are so inconsiderate! Two women came in with a package at about 4.15pm. I called the number of the person it was for - no answer. I tried other phone numbers for people in the same office. Finally a man answered the phone, and I explained about the package. He said he would be down "in a few minutes" to pick it up for his colleague.

Which would be fine, but half an hour later the package was still there. I started to worry a bit as I leave at 5.30pm and I can't leave it at the reception. So I called him again and he said he had forgotten about it and would be "right down". At 5.15pm the package was still on my desk. And the next time I rang there was no answer. I tried several more times, still no answer. In the end I managed to arrange for the package to be left somewhere safe until Monday - but I really shouldn't have had to! If the man had no intention of coming down and picking it up, that's all he needed to say! Grr...

I hope SightSonic picks up a bit tomorrow. Jon and I just had a disappointing walk around town to see all the cool installations. There is no info whatsoever in town, and some things don't even seem to be working yet. I was hoping to stay out and have some fun, but instead we had a short walk and now Jon's working...

Tomorrow it's the Geekend. And I have to bake. On Sunday the Geekend continues, plus I'm doing more SightSonic-related volunteering. And we're meeting Mr Adams.

In short: I need sleep. Goodnight!
