Follies & Food (& Shopping)
THURSDAY:
That morning we drove off to visit the Druid's Circle near Ilton. And wow. I know, I know, I've been there twice before, but every time I've seen it, it's been different. This time it was overgrown with ferns and grasses and looked absolutely wild. It is such a beautiful place. I just wish fewer people would have fires (which the signs ask you not to do), litter the place with their empty beer cans, and feel the need to scratch or write their names on the stones. But hey, none of this can dent the magic of the place, even if it is a folly. :)
Mum and Jonnie were suitably impressed. We had a fantastic walk around the place for about an hour. Then we drove to Masham for lunch. The King's Head had been recommended to us by Jon's friend Danny, so that's where we went. The parking there has an honesty box and "suggests" a donation of 50p. We would have been happy to pay it, if we could have found the honesty box. The barmaid said it was no longer there (Danny says this is not so). Well, we tried, anyhoo.
This place was ok, but why, why, WHY do places NOT mention the use of mayonnaise on their food? Especially when the menu goes into great detail about the dishes? Mayonnaise is disgusting, and it drowns out the yummy taste of the food. But Jon and I coped well enough. Well, next time we'll know, I s'pose.
Then I took Mum and Jonnie to the Designer Outlet. Mostly Mum bought pressies for people back home and clothes for Jonnie to wear when he starts his job in September (I think). But I did get an absolutely GORGEOUS top for £9. How could I not buy it at that price? It really is lovely, honest. And, while purple is featured, it's more subtle than usual. This is good. It's getting hard to distinguish between the clothes in my wardrobe...;)
As said, we went to Fellini's again. Once again, the food, wine, service and atmosphere was superb. I really do love this restaurant. :D
FRIDAY:
This was the day my family left. :( Mum had a few last minute buys to get, so I went shopping with her while Jonnie shopped by himself a bit. Sadly, most of the things Mum was after seemed to be out of stock. That was slightly annoying, but hey. Mum got most of the things she wanted/needed. I hope she's managed to find a suitable birthday present today back home (it's for tonight).
And then I got four pairs of cheap but cool earrings, and, without my knowing, they'd bought me the soundtrack to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory"!!!!! My neighbours may now be fed up of it, but it really is amazing. :D:D:D
We went to Coffee Culture for lunch. We sat on that little ledge overhanging the front, which is always fun. :) Their ciabatta bread is the best! Mmm-mmm! And their smoothies are scrummy. We all agreed it's a fab place.
And then they left. I felt a little sad. But I played the CATCF soundtrack lots and lots. And last night we met up with Roo, Mikey, Danny, Jim and Vicky, which was fun.
Today I've been reading "The Time Traveller's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. Jon's away today, visiting his 'boyfriend' so I'm not sure if I ought to expect him back tonight. ;) Although I hope so, because I'm beginning to feel a bit lonely now. I've been having a who-can-play-their-music-loudest contest with upstairs, and I think I won. :)
Now I s'pose I ought to go and do something constructive with the rest of the day.
